GUTS is the Teen Ministry here at Gateway Believers Fellowship. We have age-appropriate classes on Sunday mornings and Wednesday nights that focus on the issues that teens face in today’s world, and what God’s answers are to those issues. Our mandate is to teach the Word and flow in the Holy Ghost, knowing that teens need both a strong scriptural foundation for their faith AND to experience the manifestations of the Spirit first-hand.
One of our greatest concerns is the transition from adolescence into adulthood where so many young people seem to wander away from church. We are very aware of the statistics that tell us we are fighting a losing battle on this front, but we are convinced that God is bigger than the statistics and His Word that says to “train up a child in the way he should go and he will not depart from it” is true.
We’ve found that the most effective way to minister to teenagers is to just be real with them. They don’t care about a perfect plan or a perfect lesson. They don’t really even care about flashy technology or big entertainment. All they really care about is whether or not we really care about them.
This teaching style of being open, honest and brutally real with the teens is not for the faint-hearted. As teachers, we have to share our own struggles, doubts and fears in order to lead the teens into a real faith and a total dependency on God. We are always looking for other people with the same heart and passion to see teens transformed by the power of God. If you think teen ministry is for you, contact Tony Voyles for more information on how to get involved.
