Which Way?

"Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge Him, and He will direct thy paths." ~Proverbs 3:5-6. My paraphrase of verse six is: When you don't know the way, get on your knees and pray.

Everyone enjoys going on vacation. We get excited about visiting new places. My wife and I enjoy visiting Charleston S.C. I lived there for five years when I was growing up. In 1960 we moved back to Hamlet N.C., but I have many fond memories of living there. Last summer, we went for a visit. It's been fifty-three years since I've been, and wow, how its grown and changed. I was pretty disoriented about where to go.

We decided to go to the Visitor's Center. Once we arrived, we went to the information booth and booked a guided tour. It was the best decision we made. We enjoyed the tour and got armed with good directions to find our way around. We knew where we wanted to visit and the best way to get there.

I heard someone say, "If Moses had asked directions, the children of Israel would not have wandered in the desert for forty years." We have all been lost at least once in our travels. Sooner or later we had to ask for directions to find the right way.

What about directions for major decisions that we face in life? What choice should I make about a new career, moving, selling my house, or which church should I join ? We all have come to a crossroad wondering which  direction to take. All of the "what ifs" start parading through our minds. Confusion sets in, sometimes fear, and we hit a wall.

There is a right decision to make, but we don't know which one. God is not the author of confusion, but peace. When we stop and pray, wait on Him, He will tell you what to do. We have to have faith and trust in Him. He wants the best for our lives. He delights in our prosperity and success. All you have to do is ask and He will answer you.
