I Have to Do What?!

~ Matthew 18:21-22 says, "At that point Peter got up the nerve to ask, "Master, how many times must I forgive a brother or sister who hurts me? Seven?" Jesus replied, "Seven! Try seventy times seven." (Message Bible)

Forgiveness is a choice we make every day. Can you imagine how many times even Jesus had to ask the Father to forgive them, for they know not what they do? Really! Jesus had to do this. If He had to do this, then we also have to do this.

We all have people in our lives that rub us the wrong way. Why? Because of what's in us. Insecurity, anger, unforgiveness, jealousy, whatever your reason may be. All we have to do is forgive them. As we do this, layer after layer of unforgiveness is peeled away. All that will be left is the love of God.

Imagine what you've missed in that person's life. We may have separated ourselves from the people that we need. In the long run, we've only held ourselves back. The other person may not even have a clue as to why we are the way we are. We may not even know ourselves, but God does.
Are we willing to let the Master finish healing what He has begun? The choice is always ours.

"Now that we know what we have—Jesus, this great High Priest with ready access to God—let's not let it slip through our fingers. We don't have a priest who is out of touch with our reality. He's been through weakness and testing, experienced it all—all but the sin. So let's walk right up to Him and get what He is so ready to give. Take the mercy, accept the help. ~Hebrews 4:16 (Message Bible)
