My Brother's Keeper

This is one of the topics at our last Gideon Group. An eight-year-old child said to me, “But it’s hard.” I told her I know that it is. It’s easy to love the people that are lovable, but can you love the ones that hurt and persecute you? Can you is the question to ask yourself right now.

Why are you angry? The Lord asked Cain this question.

Why are you so depressed? We all go through things that are not pleasant whether it be through words or another person's actions. What are we going to do?

Therefore, if you are offering your gift at the altar and there remember that your brother or sister has something against you, leave your gift there in front of the altar. First go and be reconciled to them; then come and offer your gift." ~Matthew 5;24

In order for our prayers and worship to be accepted by God we must forgive. I know I have to continually say this, I forgive, release and surrender all that have rejected and abused me.

~ Genesis 4:7 "If you do what is right, will you not be accepted? But if you do not do what is right, sin is crouching at your door; it desires to have you, but you must rule over it." You heard it right if you don’t do what is right sin is waiting at your door.

~ Genesis 4:11 Now you are under a curse and driven from the ground, which opened its mouth to receive your brother's blood from your hand.

As Christians we have been given a responsibility to forgive.

Responsibility means fact of having a duty to deal with something or of having control over someone. He gives us the opportunity to make it right. We have grace from Him if we allow Him to do the work in us and through us to forgive another.

Jesus tells us to start where the problem begins - in the heart.

Compassion to others opens our heart up to be healed.

We have to release the person from our prisoned heart. It not only imprisons them, we hold onto the hurt and don’t want to let it go.  Like the song says,

“Brother let me be your shelter
Never leave you all alone
I can be the one you call
When you’re low
Brother let me be your fortress
When the night winds are driving on
Be the one to light the way
Bring you home.”

Will you be that brother? Will you be that friend?
