Hard Love

“You know the situation can’t be right

And all you ever do is fight

There’s a reason that the road is long,

It takes some time to make your courage strong.”

These lyrics from NeedtoBreathe’s song "Hard Love" speak volumes to me.

You may be feeling like the road is long. You may feel like you can’t continue on in this fight. It’s too much. The burden is too heavy to bear.

I agree. Things do get heavy. YOU may not be able to bear the weight anymore, but God can. He wants to help you. He says in Matthew 11:28-30, “Are you tired? Worn out? Burned out on religion? Come to me. Get away with me and you’ll recover your life. I’ll show you how to take a real rest. Walk with me and work with me—watch how I do it. Learn the unforced rhythms of grace. I won’t lay anything heavy or ill-fitting on you. Keep company with me and you’ll learn to live freely and lightly.”

When gold is refined, it isn’t an easy process. It takes multiple steps. The unusable parts come off in layers.

In this season, you are being purified. The things that were meant to break you will actually make you stronger. In order to have a resurrection, there has to be a death. Part of you has to die to bring about change.

You can’t take the weights of last season’s fights into this season of victory. Let go of the old and embrace the new.

There’s a new strength on the horizon.

There’s a courage deep inside that won’t be denied.

As you stand and choose not to back down

Your resolve is strengthened.

God’s standards don’t change

You must rise up and shake yourself

It’s a hard love

It’s a tough love that says, “Get up one more time.”

Your victory is on the other side.

Match the enemy blow for blow.

Give him a taste of his own medicine.

As Needtobreathe says, “You can’t change without a fall out. It’s gone hurt but don’t ya slow down. Get back up. It’s a hard love.”

Change hurts. You will transform more if you keep moving forward. You can’t go anywhere sitting still. Keep pressing toward the mark of the high calling. He’s called you for more! He’s destined you for greatness!
